Visiting Researcher — Quantum Error Correction

Location: Cologne, Germany

26 Jan 2026

We invite experienced researchers in quantum computing to join us as Visiting Researchers for focused, short-term collaborations aimed at advancing our work in fault-tolerant quantum computing. This opportunity is designed for scientists who wish to contribute intensively to a defined project over a limited residency period. You will work alongside our core research team on topics such as quantum algorithms, error correction, and co-designing scalable architectures across leading platforms (e.g., trapped ions, superconducting qubits, neutral atoms). The position is time-limited and outcome-driven — suited for accomplished individuals who can rapidly engage with complex research challenges and deliver tangible results in a condensed timeframe. The appointment is fully funded.

Company Overview

neQxt is a trailblazing company at the forefront of quantum computing technology. With decades of expertise in ion-trap technology, neQxt was founded at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany, emerging from the renowned research group of Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Schmidt-Kaler.

At neQxt, our theory team explores the principles that make scalable quantum computing possible. We focus on logical-qubit systems: developing quantum error correcting codes, decoding methods, and logical gate constructions, and studying the mathematical structures that underlie them. Our work aims to deepen the understanding of how fragile quantum information can be preserved over long timescales and across large systems. By advancing the theoretical foundations of quantum fault tolerance, we contribute to both the science of quantum information and the long-term vision of reliable quantum computing.
