Job description
You will focus on hardware development, as well as validating and testing of such hardware from the trapped-ion and atomic-physics domain. The role sits at the interface between domain experts, who may have limited electronic-development knowledge. Development, testing, and continuous integration are core responsibilities. You will collaborate with product owners, setup owner, the engineering and experiment teams, and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain electronic hardware for trapped-ion and atomic-physics applications using Altium Designer
- Develop schematics, PCB layouts, and reusable design libraries
- Perform prototype bring-up, hardware debugging, validation, and performance characterization
- Support prototype assembly and small-batch production, including manufacturing documentation and issue resolution
- Develop and maintain automated test infrastructure and continuous integration workflows for hardware and embedded software
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design files, BOMs, test procedures, and release documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s / master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, physics, engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Solid software-development background
- Experience creating, structuring, and managing software packages using common tools
- Strong coordination skills at the interface between domain experts and software-development teams
- Experience with testing, code quality practices, and continuous integration
- Ability to translate domain requirements into maintainable software structures
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Nice to have
- Experience in scientific software development, AMO physics, trapped-ion systems, or quantum technologies
- Experience with scientific Python or comparable scientific-software ecosystems
- AMO knowledge is desirable but optional
